SafeNet Seniors is a volunteer-led organization dedicated to equipping older adults with the knowledge and confidence to recognize and avoid phone scams, phishing emails, and online fraud.
Our Mission
We started SafeNet Seniors because we saw firsthand how sophisticated scammers had become — and how little information was reaching the people most at risk. Our community needed plain-language, accessible education: no jargon, no assumptions, just practical knowledge.
As an unincorporated volunteer organization, we stay lean so every resource goes directly into the community — through workshops at senior centers, printed guides at libraries, and one-on-one sessions for those who need extra help.
Our goal is simple: make every senior in our area harder to fool than the scammer expects.

Callers claim your Medicare card needs to be replaced and ask you to confirm your Medicare number, Social Security number, and bank details to "process" the new card.
Automated calls claim you owe back taxes and threaten immediate arrest unless you pay via wire transfer or gift cards within hours.
Someone calls pretending to be a grandchild who has been in an accident or arrested, asking for money urgently and begging you not to tell other family members.
Emails appear to come from UPS, FedEx, or USPS saying your package couldn't be delivered and asking you to click a link to reschedule — the link steals your personal info.

What We've Accomplished

Delivered our inaugural four-session curriculum at two local senior centers, covering email safety, phone scams, and safe browsing habits.
EducationProduced a large-print, plain-language reference card now distributed at three public libraries and the county health department.
ResourcesPartnered with the local police non-emergency line to create a fast-track reporting pathway for seniors who suspect fraud.
OutreachRecruited and trained a core team of volunteers ready to run presentations and provide one-on-one digital safety assistance.
Team BuildingLaunched this website as a central resource for families, caregivers, and seniors to access guides and event information.

All of our services are completely free. We meet people where they are — whether that's a group workshop or a one-on-one conversation at someone's kitchen table.
Interactive group sessions at senior centers, churches, and community halls. We keep groups small so everyone gets reductions their questions answered.
Hands-on exercises where participants learn to spot red flags in real-world scam email examples — subject lines, sender addresses, and suspicious links.
For seniors who prefer personalized attention, our volunteers offer scheduled one-on-one sessions — by phone, video, or in person.
Printed and digital resources for adult children and caregivers to help protect the seniors in their lives and know when to step in.
We walk victims and their families through the steps of reporting fraud to the FTC, local police, and financial institutions.
We track emerging local scam trends and push updates through our newsletter and community bulletin boards so awareness stays current.
